Health & Beauty Tips

Dear Kylie-Jane,

The Sunshine Coast Bridal Showcase, hosted by Cloud Nine Weddings was held today.... and as I watched the Brides chat with the different exhibitors to organise various aspects of their wedding, I cannot help but sympathise with them, as they aim to narrow down the millions of wedding providers, to get the "perfect people" to assist them - (My advice is to hire a wedding planner!!!!).

I guess what I am getting at is... whether you are a Bride or not, there will be times in your life that you feel stressed, under pressure or wound up tightly with anxiety - lets learn how to deal effectively with these times when it happens!

This week we cover:-

"Benefits of Mineral Make-Up" &

"10 Tips to Reduce Stress, Manage Anxiety & Reduce Pressure"

Have a great day!

Enjoy :)

mineral Q. In all the magazines that I read lately, Mineral Make-Up seems to be all the rage... I have not yet tried it, but am thinking about giving it a go... would it be any better than my current make-up?

A.  Mineral makeup has a variety of benefits that expand beyond its versatility (in powder form, it can be used as foundation, blush and eye shadow) and its economic upside (it lasts longer than cheaper cosmetics, making it a worthwhile investment). Because you can blend different powders together, women can well-match their skin tones or compliment their outfits better with them. Mineral makeup also offers benefits for your skin, too.

Anti-Aging Properties
Natural moisturisers and botanical ingredients are added to mineral makeup. This helps nourish the skin and fight the aging process.

Longer-Lasting Coverage
This type of makeup lasts longer than other powder-based cosmetics since it is richer than other make-up dyes.

Won't Cause Acne
Mineral makeup doesn't clog pores, which is a leading cause of pimples and blackheads.

Natural Appearance
Because of the way the makeup reflects light, the cosmetics give wearers a more natural and glowing appearance than liquid foundations.

Sun Protection
The minerals in the makeup help filter the harmful rays of the sun in addition to the SPF protection that manufacturers add to the powder.

Good For All Skin Types
People with sensitive, dry or oily skin can use this product without aggravating their condition.

Healthier Product
Mineral make-up uses natural ingredients instead of chemicals or other synthetic products, meaning your skin is absorbing healthier elements instead of potential toxins.

Kylie-Jane suggests the following Mineral Products:-

 MK Mineral Foundation $30

MK Mineral Cheek Colours $17
MK Mineral Eye Colours $12

10 Tips to Reduce Stress, Manage Anxiety & Handle Pressure

 stress

Have a good night's sleep
Sleep is a natural part of everybody's life yet many people underestimate its importance. Sleep is not an option, it is a necessary task that our bodies are programmed to do in order to function productively and effectively. Inadequate sleep can decrease performance, concentration, reaction times and consolidation of information learning leading to increased stress and anxiety. Most adults need approximately eight hours of sleep each night while children and adolescents should aim for at least nine hours. If you struggle to sleep, embark on a course
www.janinerod.com which will give you the skills to ensure you are able to relax and enjoy a good night's sleep. Other aids to promote a good sleep are deep breathing, using music as a stress filter, mind focusing and therapeutic aids such as aromatherapy oils to help calm and soothe.

Eat three balanced meals a day
Eating three balanced meals a day ensures that your body is receiving a regular input of energy and nutrients. Many people make the mistake of eating only one or two balanced meals a day. This lowers your metabolic rate and your body conserves energy leading to increased stress and reduced assertiveness. Aim to eat a healthy, balanced lunch as your body will need the energy to perform at its best and ensure that you complete tasks effectively and efficiently. Avoid snack and junk foods as well as pre-prepared meals. These are all high in salt, sugar, preservatives and fat which work against the body's natural mechanisms to stay healthy and relaxed.

Exercise regularly
To achieve any health goals - which includes a good sleep pattern - either physical or emotional, it's important that you exercise regularly. Exercising has a myriad of physical health benefits including disease prevention, such a heart disease and high blood pressure, improving stamina, enhancing flexibility and managing weight. In terms of emotional health, when people exercise neurotransmitters, such as serotonin, are released and these promote good, happy feelings. Increased serotonin levels are important for a more positive mood. Exercise can also lead to the release of certain neurotransmitters in the brain that alleviate both physical and mental pain. But be realistic! Aim to exercise three days per week which will help to reduce stress, lift your mood and help you to sleep well at night.

Cut the caffeine
Caffeine can increase feelings of stress as it temporarily raises your blood pressure. Moderate caffeine consumption i.e. drinking more than four caffeinated drinks per day, makes the body act as if it is under constant stress. When combined with work anxieties and family pressures, caffeine can increase blood pressure significantly, leading to an increased risk of long-term heart disease. Thus the combination of real stress with the artificial boost in stress hormones that comes from caffeine compounds to make you feel over-stressed and unable to cope.

Take time to unwind
I often hear that people are "far too busy" to take time to unwind at work. However not taking time out means your work rate suffers and it will take longer to complete tasks. If you are finding that you are unable to cope with your present workload then you need to review the situation. Your employer is paying you for a set number of hours and if you can't get through the work in those hours, it's time to see what changes can be made to the routine and what tasks you can delegate. Remember, if you feel mentally and physically fatigued then you aren't going to perform at your best. A short course (
www.janinerod.com) on managing stress and keeping a healthy work-life balance goes a long way to improve your personal and professional wellbeing.

Learn a relaxation technique
By learning meditation, hypnosis or another relaxation techniques, you will allow your body and mind to mentally and physically relax. Relaxation techniques can help to clear away mental clutter, allowing you to think and function more clearly. Previously stressful decisions or situations can be worked through and managed. Relaxation techniques enable you to reduce stress, increase energy and even help to boost the immune system.

Decrease negative self talk
Self-talk is important to become a more self-aware and self-confident person. What you tell yourself and what you think about yourself has a strong impact on what you do. To decrease stress you need to shift your words and thoughts from negative self talk to positive self talk. Negative self talk, such as "every problem has to have the perfect solution and if I don't find it then I will have failed", can lead to decreased motivation and increased stress. Positive self talk, such as "there are many solutions out there and I will look for ways to try find the right one", can help you to find solutions to barriers, feel good about yourself and to take action.

Learn practical, effective coping skills
Learning practical, effective coping skills could be as simple as learning to break a large goal into smaller, more attainable steps. These steps can then be prioritised meaning you will notice what you have achieved. This will be a positive reinforcement of the possible step you have accomplished and will reduce the stress of having to attain a seemingly impossible, large goal.

Take a break from a stressful situation
Removing yourself from a stressful situation can help to bring it into perspective and look at the situation objectively. Once removed from the situation you can objectively identify skills such as time management, problem-solving techniques or decision-making skills to manage the cause of your stress. You may also find that you need to do some exercise, practice a relaxation technique or take some time to unwind.

Feel good about doing a competent job rather than demanding perfection
Perfection is a myth and sets unrealistic standards that cannot be achieved. Demanding perfection in your job, relationships or life only creates stress as this high standard can never be achieved. Focus on the competent job you are doing and the goals that you have attained. Use positive self talk to reinforce your abilities and achievements.
