Dear Kylie-Jane,
On a humerous note this week.... I was asked by
another mum (whom I
have never met before) at my son's daycare centre,
if I am infact a VAMPIRE
:) The reasoning behind this question, seems to be that I have
vampire skin - very smooth & flawless. My response to this
bizarre question is that - I have a great foundation & I know how
to apply it well.... so I thought I would also share with you some
great foundation application tips, so you too can look like a vampire :)
(PS. this mum is a Twilight Fan, if that helps to
explain why she asked this question).
I have also just spent the last 3 days at
the "Home & Garden Expo" manning a site for
my husbands' business. Over these 3 days I have had time
to do a lot of "people watching", as I watched
and analysed the exhibitors telling all about their great,
fan-dangle products that they are trying to sell! As I listended to
their spiel, reapeated over and over for the duration of the expo, it
hit home to me, that the Beauty Industry is no different... we are fed
information from many sources - but how much of that info is actually
true?? Unfortunately we often believe what we hear as most times
it comes from a close source (friend or family) and we have no reason
not to believe them.... so lets sort through some of the age old
beauty myths this week...
This week we cover:-
"Liquid & Mineral Foundation Application
Tips" &
"Beauty Myths EXPOSED!"

Q. Can you please
explain the difference in applying a Liquid foundation to a Mineral
foundation - I need to choose which I would like
to purchase next...
LIQUID
FOUNDATION APPLICATION
When you
wear liquid foundation make-up, it's important to apply it properly.
Foundation creates a smooth base for the rest of your make-up, but
improperly applied it can look ghastly, giving your face a streaked
or mask-like look. Here's how to apply foundation properly.
STEP
1
Choose
foundation that is close to your skin color (have a professional
match it for you, before you buy it)
STEP 2
Dot a bit of foundation on your cheeks, forehead and
chin.
Use a clean make-up sponge or your clean finger and blend the dots
into your skin, using outward motions.
STEP 3
Smooth the foundation over your nose and blend it in well.
Smooth some foundation over your eyelids and lips as a base for eye
shadow and lipstick.
STEP 4
Add a little water to your fingers or sponge and blend
in the foundation at your neck line, so there's no visible line where
the foundation ends.
Blend your
foundation all the way into your hair line.
Finish by dusting a light powder (or mineral foundation) over the top
to set it to last the entire day.
MINERAL FOUDATION APPLICATION
Mineral
Powder Foundation is a quick, healthy, and beautiful alternative to
liquid foundation. It is composed of finely milled all-natural
minerals that go on the skin smoothly and effortlessly. Mineral
powder foundation is applied differently than traditional liquid
foundation but if done properly, not only is it extremely easy, but
provides excellent, buildable coverage.
STEP 1
Start with a freshly washed and moisturized face.
With the top securely on the foundation, lightly shake the container
to bring some foundation through the sifter.
Unscrew the
top and dip the tip of your foundation brush into the makeup. Only
pick up a small amount of the minerals.
STEP 3
Swirl the brush into the cap of the foundation container. Doing this
ensures that the foundation minerals get deep into the bristles of
the brush. When you can no longer see the individual minerals on the
brush, then you are ready to apply the foundation.
STEP 4
Starting in the middle of your face, swirl the brush over your skin.
Lightly buff the brush in outward, circular strokes.
STEP 5
Continue buffing the skin, adding more foundation as necessary.
Remember to load the brush as described each time and buff towards
your hairline and jawline.
STEP 6
Concealer is usually not needed with mineral powder foundation. If
you do need additional coverage over a few flaws you would apply it
before you would apply the foundation.
After you practice a few times, this procedure will go quickly. I can
completely apply foundation in less than one minute. You will find
that mineral powder foundation will give you a flawless, airbrushed
finish. You will never go back to liquid foundation again!

There are so
many do's and dont's circulating around the world of beauty, it's no
wonder if you feel a bit confused. Get the facts right in our honest
guide to modern myths.
Information, misinformation and myth - there's a lot of it about,
especially when it comes to the quest for a beautiful body and skin.
Most of us realise that many of our mothers and grandmothers taught
us were wrong - such as "eating chocolate gives you spots"
and "crusts make your hair curl". But as the old myths have
died out, new ones have sprung up to take their place. Find out
what's really true and explore the myths surrounding Beauty.
True
or False
SLEEPING ON A PILE OF PILLOWS GIVES YOU A DOUBLE CHIN
False. Double chins are caused by fat collecting under the
chin and loss of muscle tone in the neck.
RUBBING LEMON ON YOUR ELBOW CURES DRY SKIN
True. The lemon exfoliates away flaky skin, and as an
added bonus, it can lighten the skin.
WEARING A BRA WHEN YOUR'RE IN BED HELPS TO STOP YOUR
BREASTS FROM SAGGING
True. Marylin Monroe followed this mantra, but it is
rather uncomfortable.
EXERCISE MAKES YOU PUT ON WEIGHT
True. Muscle weighs more than fat, so increasing its size
through exercise can make you weigh a little more.
Stick
to the Facts
Its hard staying healthy and gorgeous, without being completely
misled by friends & family. Discover the truth behind today's
"old wives tales".
ONE THING LEADS TO ANOTHER
If you
have a facelift now, you'll regret it because you'll need another one
in 10 years time
Whatever you think of cosmetic surgery, there's no rule that says you
can't stop once you've started. A facelift can make you look younger
, but it doesn't stop the aging process, so in ten years time
you'll look 10 years older than when you had the facelift. One thing
we can be sure of, though, is that if you do keep having facelifts in
a bid to keep your youthful looks, you won't fool anyone. Your
eyebrows will end up at your hairline, and your mouth fixed in
rictus grin!
HAIRIER AND HAIRIER
Shaving
makes you hairier because it stimulates hair growth
Shaving is a quick and easy means to hair-free legs & underarms,
though the stubbly regrowth is a major downside. But your hair does
not grow back coarser or thicker than before. However, it may look
and feel worse, because when you shave, you cut off the hairs
naturally tapered ends, leaving them blunt. The actual hairs are the
same width as before, and there are no more of them than before.
IN YOUR GENES
No matter
how much you diet and exercise, you're stuck with the type of body
you were born with, so if your mother or father was fat, you will be
too.
It's true that you are born with a basic body type and that you can't
change your bone structure, but your body weight is a different
matter. Only around 25% of your body weight is affected by your
genes, and the rest is up to you. with a combination of healthy eating
and exercise, there's no reason why you can't be trim, whatever shape
or size your parents are. If you are prone to putting on weight
easily, focus on exercise that increases muscle tissue. The more
muscle you have, the faster your metabolism will be, which means
you'll burn calories faster.
SUN STORY
You
really don't need to use sunscreen when it's cloudy or overcast
outside
Don't fall for this myth - it really is a bad piece of advice. In
fact, you should aim to wear some form of sunscreen all year round,
even in autumn and winter. The sun's damaging UV rays are still
present even on the greyest of days and, although they're not as
powerful as they are on a hot sunny day, they can still cause
premature skin aging and an increased risk of skin cancer. It's
better to be safe than sorry, so stock up on sunscreens and make a
point of opting for moisturisers and other skin products with added
sun protection factors.
WET SKIN WOES
If you
moisturise your body while your skin is still damp after bathing, the
cream will be absorbed more easily and you'll have softer skin.
This is an
old wives' tale, and if you follow what it says, you may jeopardise
the benefits of your moisturiser. Water dilutes the cream, so
applying it to damp skin may mean a lot of the nourishing ingredients
will dissolve or slip off before they've had a chance to be absorbed.
However, it is a good idea to apply your body cream as soon as you
have towel-dried... warm water opens up your pores so skin is at its
most receptive to all the lovely emollients and other beauty-boosting
ingredients in your moisturiser.
